Product Introduction
Benzalkonium chloride is a non-oxidizing biocide, classified as a quaternary ammonium cationic surfactant. It is a complex mixture of alkyl benzyl dimethyl ammonium chloride compounds with even-numbered alkyl chains of varying lengths. Formulations of benzalkonium chloride exhibit broad-spectrum and highly effective germicidal and algaecidal properties, along with excellent biofilm-removal capacity. Additionally, it offers partial penetration and dispersion capabilities, along with deodorizing, degreasing, and mild corrosion-inhibiting effects.

Product Function
BZK is extensively applied in medical and clinical settings as a disinfectant, including preoperative skin antisepsis, cleansing of wounds and mucous membranes, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
BKC disrupts the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane by altering its permeability, leading to leakage of cellular contents, inhibition of metabolic processes, and ultimately microbial death. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria.
Usage and Dosage
As a potent antimicrobial agent, benzalkonium chloride is primarily used for sterilization and disinfection in clinical environments. Recommended concentrations and applications include:
- Use a 0.1% BAK solution for skin and mucous membrane sanitation.
- Apply a 0.01% BAC solution for wound cleansing.
- For deep wound irrigation, use a 0.005% ADBAC solution.
- Vaginal douching requires a 0.02% to 0.05% benzalkonium chloride solution.
- Bladder and urethral lavage should be performed with a 0.005% benzalkonium chloride solution.
- For bladder retention therapy, use a 0.0025% to 0.005% benzalkonium chloride solution.
- Disinfection and storage of surgical tools: immerse in a 0.1% benzalkonium chloride solution; sodium nitrite may be added to prevent instrument corrosion.
- As a preservative in ophthalmic formulations: 0.005% to 0.02% BC50 or BC80 solutions.
- Preoperative hand scrub: wash with a 0.05% to 0.1% alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride solution for 5 minutes.
